ST. THOMAS
GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Under the general direction of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, an employee in this class performs a variety of general maintenance, groundskeeping, and minor construction tasks including basic plumbing, masonry, painting, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
DUTIES INCLUDE (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE):
- Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, including replacing or repairing worn belts or tightening nuts and bolts. Secures assistance in the event of a breakdown or anticipated major operating difficulties.
- Makes minor electrical repairs, including replacing fuses, replacing light bulbs, and making temporary extensions of electrical installations.
- Operates small electrical and gasoline-powered equipment used to complete assigned tasks.
- Operates light automotive equipment in transporting supplies or passengers.
- Repairs and replaces windows, doors, interior walls, and plumbing fixtures.
- Builds rough partitions and makes minor building repairs to floors and steps.
- Performs groundskeeping tasks such as shoveling, raking, planting, weeding, trimming plants, and removing trimmings.
- Cleans equipment and ascertains that lubrication and water and fuel consumption and supply are adequate for efficient performance.
- Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, and stairways; sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor; clean rugs, carpets, and, upholstered furniture; washes windows and doors.
- Receives unloads and distributes cleaning supplies as needed.
- Empties wastebaskets and transports trash to the disposal area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years experience in the general maintenance field or similar positions in performing a variety of semi-skilled building and mechanical maintenance or repair tasks. Valid U.S. Virgin Islands driver’s license and availability to work irregular hours and weekends as required.
