Government Employees’ Retirement System Announces Results of Retiree Elections

The Government Employees’ Retirement System (GERS) retiree elections nomination process began on September 8, 2020 and ended on October 23, 2020.

The Government Employees’ Retirement System (GERS) retiree elections nomination process began on September 8, 2020 and ended on October 23, 2020.

In the St. Thomas District

The St. Thomas District Election Committee and the St. Thomas District Observers met via Zoom on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 and reviewed the one (1) nomination packet received in the St. Thomas District. The election committee with agreement of the observers deemed that the candidate Dwane A. Callwood met all the requirements as required by law. The Administrator reviewed the file of Mr. Callwood and the recommendation of the election committee and the observers and deemed Mr. Callwood to be qualified.

Mr. Callwood is a retired Chief Marshall of the Virgin Islands Superior Court. He has earned an Associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Brevard Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), and a Master’s degree in Accounting from Ohio State University. He has completed the CPA exam. He teaches managerial accounting part-time at UVI and is an instructor of stock option trading at Options Trading University. 

Since Mr. Callwood was the only applicant in the St. Thomas District and has met all the requirements, in accordance with the procedures for election of retirees adopted by the Board of Trustees of the GERS, there will be no election in the St. Thomas District. Mr. Callwood shall take office as if elected when Dr. Wilbur K. Callender’s term expires in March 2021.

In the St. Croix District

No nomination packets were received in the St. Croix District. Therefore, no election will be held in the St. Croix District.
