Refunds
Upon termination of service with the Government of the Virgin Islands, any member who is not eligible for a service retirement annuity shall be entitled to receive a refund of their accumulated contributions, plus regular interest.
Any member who withdrew from service and does not receive a refund and later returns to government service shall be entitled to receive credit for the amount of credited service for the time he or she contributed to GERS.
Any member who withdrew from service and receives a refund of contributions waives and relinquishes all accrued rights in GERS. If the member re-enters government service, he or she shall pay to GERS all withdrawn contributions, the interest paid on those contributions prior to withdrawal, the income GERS would have earned had those contributions remained in GERS, and the interest on the unpaid balance.
