Pre-Retirement Program

The Pre-Retirement Program provides employees with information to assist them in making sound decisions in preparation for retirement. It is geared towards employees age 30 and older.

Pre-Retirement Planning:

  • Members are encouraged to learn about GERS benefits and begin developing their retirement road map by attending one of our monthly sponsored workshops, attending a department/agency on-site workshop, or seeking individual counseling.
  • Members are strongly encouraged to attend at least one (1) Pre-retirement Planning workshop in their career as this would help them to gauge their plans for the future and work towards getting their finances in order, paying down debt, repaying contributions, getting their questions on social security answered and so much more.
  • Members are encouraged to save at minimum, 3 months income to tide them over during the transitional period between their retirement date and the time when their annuity begins.
  • All new employees are encouraged to attend the Division of Personnel sponsored New Employee Orientation. A wealth of information is shared to include government policies and benefits, health and life insurance benefits, GERS benefits and credit union benefits.
