A member may apply for a Deferred Retirement Annuity if he or she leaves the government after working and contributing to GERS for at least ten (10) years. The annuity is payable upon attaining age fifty (50) with a penalty of 3.9% for each year the member is under age sixty (60). The member may elect to apply for his or her annuity upon attaining age sixty (60) to avoid any penalties.
If you are a "Safety" employee, you may apply for a Deferred Retirement Annuity prior to age 55 with 10 years of credited service. Your Deferred Retirement Annuity will be calculated at the Regular retirement rate of 2.5% for each year of credited service.
